Double Springs sod is sold by the square yard. Measure
your lawn area (length x width = sq. ft., divide by 9 =
sq. yards) to determine the amount of sod you will need.
Call your Double Springs turfgrass specialist at
800-458-4756, if needed, for further information.
Example: 12' x 30' = 360 ft. 360 / 9 = 40 square
yards of sod
Sod Installation Guide:
For an instantly beautiful green lawn, follow each step
carefully. When your sod is delivered, Double Springs
will provide you with a maintenance guide for the
variety of sod you purchased. Be sure to follow the
maintenance guide for the type of grass you are
installing.
-
Remove all debris from yard. Rototill soil 4" to 6"
deep. Add 60 lbs. of lime and 30 lbs. of 13-13-13
fertilizer per 1000 square feet. Rototill
amendments into soil.
-
Fine grade by scraping across the surface to smooth
uneven areas. Finished grade should be two inches
below walks, driveways and patios. Sod is uniformly
machine cut and will conform to any irregularities
left in the grade.
-
Roll soil to settle and firm surface. Soil should
be dry to avoid compaction. Fine grade again, if
necessary.
-
Immediately upon arrival, begin laying sod adjacent
to the longest boundary of the area to be covered.
Stagger each new row of sod so that seams are
offset, as in a brick wall. Butt ends and edges
tightly together but do not overlap.
-
Cut sod with a shovel or hatchet to conform to
curved boundaries, planters, etc. After first 200
square feet are installed, water sod lightly to
prevent wilting. Water in increments of 200 square
feet.
-
When all sod is installed, use a roller to insure a
good contact between the sod and the native soil.
Then water all grass thoroughly so that the water
soaks through the sod into the ground beneath.
-
Water everyday until sod becomes rooted to the soil,
then water as needed. Mowing should begin two weeks
after installation.
